Ninety-nine men, women, and children lost their lives in the tragic Brig Saint John shipwreck  in October, 1849. They fled Ireland and the effects of An Gorta Mor – the Great  Famine only to die within sight of land. Each year The  Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 9 Plymouth, Ma commemorates the occasion and honors their loss at a Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Cohasset. This year, a granite bench  in their memory  will be dedicated following the mass.
