Welcome to Widow’s Walk–Scituate’s municipal-owned 18-hole golf course. Nestled between the historic North River and the Atlantic Ocean, this beautiful public golf course was opened in 1997.
It is America’s first environmental demonstration course. By its very design, Widow’s Walk was intended to impact the environment as little as possible by utilizing the natural contours of the land. With its many forced carries, reclaimed native grass areas, and unirrigated rough, only 30 of the 100 acres are irrigated turf. The use of three different putting green construction techniques acts as a demonstration of which is the most environmentally friendly. Widow’s Walk serves as a standard today for new construction of golf courses because of its environmentally friendly design. As part of their commitment to the environment, Widow’s Walk became a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary course in 2002. This program ensures that this course will continue to be a benefit to the environment by establishing avian nesting boxes, providing habitat for countless species, and by using minimal amounts of water, pesticides, and fertilizer.
Widow’s Walk Course is challenging enough to prevent the mind from straying but what is wrong with being in the best birdwatching location while hitting a par 4? The breathtaking views of the North River and the blue ocean are the reward for the challenging course. When you reach the elevated tee of the 17th hole, you will see a house in the distance with architectural feature that gives the course its name. The clubhouse was recently renovated and includes the Drift In restaurant. Come down to the South Shore and enjoy a game of golf in one of nature’s most beautiful locations in New England!
