Scituate resident Lynne Reeves Griffin draws on three decades of expertise as an internationally recognized family counselor, and novelist, as well as her lifelong passion for the theater for her riveting new novel of suspense, The Dangers of an Ordinary Night, which The New York Times calls, “a sensitive examination of a dysfunctional family and a full-of-secrets community that claims to be seeking the truth.” Set in Scituate and in Boston, this twisty and affecting thriller combines a meticulously constructed crime story with a domestic drama about addiction and the blind spots we bring to our most precious relationships.

In this virtual program Lynne will share her inspiration to use Scituate landmarks in her story of seemingly ordinary characters who harbor explosive secrets. She’ll discuss her research into the long shadow of addiction in families, and the impact it has on marriage and parenting. Join Lynne for a conversation about how fiction and real life collide, along with the deepest mystery of family life—why we often hide our private struggles from the people we love most. Lynne Reeves Griffin is an acclaimed novelist and a nationally-recognized expert on family life and relationships, writing as both Lynne Reeves and Lynne Griffin. She is the author of the novels Girl Sent Away, Sea Escape and Life Without Summer and she has written the nonfiction guides Let’s Talk About It: Adolescent Mental Health and Negotiation Generation. Lynne teaches fiction writing at Grub Street Writers and she has written short fiction, essays, and articles for Salon, The Boston Globe, Parenting Magazine, Scholastic Parent & Child, The Writer Magazine, Psychology Today, Chautauqua Journal, Solstice Literary Magazine, Brain, Child and more.
