Whether you realize it or not, Scituate is a really popular shooting location for movies. Here are a few of the films that have been filmed right here in Scituate and a small list of places in those movies that you visit during your stay.

Witches of Eastwick

The Witches of Eastwick

In his first novel after winning the Pulitzer Prize, John Updike wrote a book about a coven of witches living in a fictional town in coastal Rhode Island. In 1987 The Witches of Eastwick was brought to life on the big screen by George Miller and stars Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Saranden and Michelle Pfiffer in the leading roles.

During the film, Cher’s character walks into a shop called The Yacking Fox. That building is on Front St, right here in Scituate, MA! Nowadays, it’s home to the Lucky Finn Cafe and coffeehouse. Located right on the edge of the sea, The Lucky Finn is where the locals go. A small, family owned coffee shop and co-working space, The Lucky Finn serves up everything from acai bowls and avocado toasts to breakfast pastries and sandwiches, and of course lots of fresh coffee.

If you’d like to take a little bit of Scituate home with you, pick up a bag of their signature coffee. There’s something for everyone. Prefer a kick in the pants to wake you up in the morning? Try the Commonwealth Dark. Feel like something a little gentler? Go for the Ketiara light roast. You can pick up a bag at the shop or order online.

American Fiction American Fiction

The second film on this list to be based on a novel, American Fiction is an adaptation of Percival Everett’s Erasure. Everett, one of the most innovative and profound writers of the last three decades, addresses issues surrounding the publication and criticism of Black literature. Thelonious “Monk” Ellison is a writer from Boston whose career has hit the skids, his mother is slowly succumbing to Alzheimer’s and he’s miffed by the success of a book called We’s Live in Da Ghetto by an author “who visited relatives in Harlem” one time. In his outrage, he quickly writes a book called My Pafology

He never intended to publish the book nor did he think anyone would like it, so he finds himself in a bit of a quagmire when the book becomes a major hit. The backlash to the book is what propels the story because Monk wrote the book under a pseudonym. Chaos ensues as the book becomes a bestseller.

The film, set to come out in mid-December, was filmed all over the Commonwealth. There were a number of scenes filmed on Sand Hills and Peggotty beaches right here in Scituate. Two of Scituate’s most beautiful beaches, these are two stunning spots to catch the sunrise or the sunset. For the adventurers among us, Peggoty beach is one of the South Shore’s premier surf spots.

Good Kids

Starring a pre-Succession Nicholas Braun, and a fresh-faced Zoey Deutch, Good Kids follows four high schoolers as they try to find themselves in the last summer before they all go to college. Brought to you by the creative behind American Pie, Good Kids make good use of Scituate’s beautiful beaches and summer hang out spots. When you visit Scituate, make sure to add any number of the gorgeous beaches to your itinerary.
