Lost Writings & Original Soldier Sketches from a WWII Artillery Unit
Presentation and Book Signing
by Author Patrick Naughton Retired U.S. Army Officer, Iraq Veteran, Military Historian
Discovered in a worn black binder at an estate sale outside Washington, D.C., Baker Battery Goes to War rescues the lost writings and original sketches of a World War II artillery unit from obscurity. Through the words of the soldiers themselves, the book follows Baker Battery from training to combat with the 69th Infantry Division, capturing not only the movement of war but the humor, fear, endurance, and humanity of the men who lived it. It is more than a unit history. It is a record of service, sacrifice, and memory, and a reminder that some of the most important stories of the war were nearly left behind.

Author Patrick Naughton is a retired U.S. Army officer, Iraq veteran, military historian, and award-winning author who spent nearly 30 years in uniform. At this in-person event, he will share the remarkable story of how the Baker Battery collection was discovered, what these soldiers experienced during the final months of World War II, and why preserving the voices of ordinary service members remains so important. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear the story behind the book directly from the author and explore a deeply personal side of World War II rarely found in traditional histories.
