Choral Art Society of the South Shore (CAS) presents “I Hear America Singing: Songs for the People and The American Songbook”
Our Spring concert, “I Hear America Singing” is a fantastic, inspiring, joyful concert. The first half “Songs for the People” features gospel, spiritual, and inspiring music. The second half, “The American Songbook” focuses on music from the American Songbook from 1924-1956.
According to Danica Buckley, “the concert ranges from powerful words of Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, and others, to familiar and toe-tapping songs of Cole Porter, the Gershwins, and vocal jazz classics. For a breath of fresh air, goose-bump provoking inspiration, a chance to sing along a bit, and some bopping along with us, come join us at this lively concert!”
Featured music: Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Irving Berlin’s popular setting of Emma Lazarus’s poem on the Statue of Liberty; The Negro Speaks of Rivers, Text by Langston Hughes and Music by Margaret Bonds; Songs from Fats Waller to Cole Porter, and jazz favorites, “I’ve Got the World on a String” and “When Sunny Gets Blue”.
