About Museum Beach in Scituate, MA

This family-friendly neighborhood beach is a small slice of heaven along beautiful Scituate Harbor.  It is situated on the north edge of Scituate Harbor on Jericho Road and within walking distance of the Scituate Lighthouse. There is no parking lot and parking is not allowed on the nearby side streets. However, it is a very pleasant stroll from the Lighthouse parking area and the Jericho Road boat ramp. 

History of Museum Beach

Museum Beach initially earned its name from the F.N. Damon Curio Museum which operated in this location from the 1800’s to 1920’s. Frederick North Damon attended dental school in 1895 when he suddenly contracted tuberculosis. He traveled southwest and this museum stored all of his special souvenirs. 

This beach was very important for the town of Scituate as it was mainly used to dry Irish moss. Here, mossers would pull dories up to the beach and unload their moss on the sand to dry. Find out more information about the Museum Beach from the image below.

Museum Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the South Shore of Massachusetts. It is a family-friendly beach with a variety of activities for visitors of all ages including swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The water is typically calm and shallow, making it a good place for families with young children. At low tide, shallow pools fill for exploration. You can bring a paddle board or kayak to launch, but be careful not to stray off the dune paths when transporting.
