For familes with children ages 5-25

Our afternoon summit for parents and other caring adults is back! Jessica Lahey, NYT best-selling author of The Gift of Failure, will share the science of prevention through relatable stories from her latest book, The Addiction Inoculation.

The Power of Prevention Summit is FREE to attend for parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers, clergy, and others committed to raising children. The goal of this prevention summit is to share information and build skills among adults which can impact specific risk and protective factors in children. Once again, we have organized the content into a single afternoon for a busy audience.

Our keynote presenter is parenting author and mom in recovery, Jessica Lahey. She will share science and relatable stories to help parents, educators, and others understand the roots of addiction, to identify who is most at risk for developing a problem, as well as clear, practical steps for prevention. Yes, please.

According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, teen drug addiction is the nation’s largest preventable and costly health problem. Despite the existence of proven preventive strategies, nine out of ten adults with substance use disorder report they began drinking and taking drugs before age eighteen.

The Addiction Inoculation is a comprehensive resource that caring adults can use to prevent substance problems in children. Based on research in child welfare, psychology, substance abuse, and developmental neuroscience, this essential guide provides evidence-based strategies and practical tools adults need to understand, support, and educate resilient, addiction-resistant children. The guidelines are age-appropriate and actionable—from navigating a child’s risk for addiction, to interpreting signs of early abuse, to advice for broaching difficult conversations with children. Books available for sale from Buttonwood Books at the event (cash/credit card), with book-signing available at the end of the program!

Plus Scituate- specific data, tips and resources. Coffee and refreshments. Don’t miss!
